Start this walk at OS grid reference: NT084 056/postcode: DG10 9HU. There is ample parking in Grange Place and Grange road, Moffat. Walk up Harthope Place, up the hill past The Whins on your right and The Academy on your left. The road becomes a track through the woods. There are a few colour-coded Moffat Walks: For this one, you are looking for red arrows. Once out in the open again, you need to go through two kissing gates to get on to the circular walk around the hill. There is a track off to the right where you can walk up to the cairn. Otherwise, keep walking around the hill until either you get back to where you started, and then head back down through the woods, or take an earlier path down towards Old Well Road which leads into the lovely town of Moffat. Just as you get to this path, there are beautiful views of the town. The circular walk takes about 45 minutes. Although there is obviously an ascent and a descent as this is a hill walk, the gravel path is well-maintained making the walk quite accessible.
